Children's Films Celebrate the Ocean
Bring a friend and enjoy popcorn & a movie!
10:00am - 5:00pm

10:00am – 10:30
National Geographic film “Locomotion In The Sea” (16 minutes)
Enjoy a short program before the film featuring the many amazing adaptations of animals who move, swim, and crawl in the water. Live animal specimens in the touch tank demonstrate locomotion techniques of animals on the seafloor.

11:00am - 12:00pm
“Humphrey The Lost Whale” A True Story (30minutes)
Meet Humphrey the humpback whale who swam the wrong way up the river and was helped by the people of the town. A Reading Rainbow Video. Marine animal puppets introduce the film.

12:30pm -1:00pm
“The Conch’s Life Story” (6 minutes)
Sea snails are fascinating creatures. Watch how a conch begins life. Like a jellyfish it floats in the sea as it matures. This very short film captures the development of conchs to a musical score. Compare the adult whelks in our touch tank with hands-on program after the film.

1:30pm – 2:00pm
“The Trash Troll” (12 minutes)
Children meet a friendly troll on the beach and learn about the harmful effects of beach litter and how to help clean up the beach and ocean waters. A short discussion follows with information on beach sweeps at Tybee.

2:30pm 3:00pm
“Where Does My Garbage Go?” (26 minutes)
This delightful video follows a bright yellow bag of trash on its journey to the dump. Learn why recycling is important to saving our oceans.

3:30pm – 4:00pm
“Turtle World” (9 minutes)
This award winning, animated video without words powerfully, but subtly captures the dilemma of humans’ overdevelopment, greed, and the ultimate sustainability of our planet. A short interactive program follows the film.

4:00pm – 4:30pm
“The Rainbow Fish” Based on the books by Marcus Pfister (15 minutes)
The Rainbow fish learns how to share his shiny scales and make friends. Puppets introduce the video and have fun performing for the children afterwards!

4:30pm – 5:00pm
“Secrets of the Salt Marsh” Bullfrog Films (20 minutes)
See the salt marsh like never before! Children and adults will enjoy this video. Learn more about the vast, salt marsh that is part of our landscape of home!
